Angelo Rodriguez was born on February 22, 1972 in Lima, Peru, the third generation of a circus family. His father, Zabu Juan Rodriguez Castillo, who trained him in all circus disciplines, is of Indian origin. His mother, née Edilma Castro, is Peruvian. Angelo’s talents as an acrobat led him to join Peru’s National Gymnastics Team, then to win the first prize at Lima’s International Circus Festival. The first prize came with a scholarship to train at Moscow’s State College of Circus and Variety Arts. There, he was trained by the legendary acrobat and hand-balancer, Valery Raschivkin.
In 1996, Angelo joined the company of Cirque du Soleil, and performed his aerial act in their production of Alegria in the U.S. and in Japan. In the United States, Angelo has also worked with Carson & Barnes Circus, the Royal Hanneford Circus, Circus Chimera, and Lone Star Circus, among others. He has also appeared in many special events, including the Grammy Awards, the Super Bowl, and several MBA games. Beside his aerial act, he performs a hand-to-handAn acrobatic act in which one or more acrobats do hand-balancing in the hands of an under-stander. balancing act with Miguel Balderrama, an Argentinian acrobat now based in the United States. In 2013, Angelo returned to Peru to produce circus shows in Lima.
