Russian Barre

In the 1970s, the Mechkarovi, who came from Bulgaria, were one of the top Russian Barre acts of the time in Europe—although they were not officially recognized at the 2nd International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo, in which they participated in 1975; indeed they won special prizes, but they came short of being awarded a Gold or a Silver Clown, the official Jury's supreme accolade. The Mechkarovi were better technically than most similar acts then, but perhaps not as good or elegant artistically. Nonetheless, they were, in their time, the Russian Barre act against which all the others were measured.
